Battery-powered electronic personal care products are suitable for travel or daily use due to their portability and the fact that they do not need to be plugged in. Depending on product requirements and designs, they are mainly divided into two categories: rechargeable batteries and disposable batteries (in below paragraph we only discuss cylindrical battery cells). Each of them has its own characteristics, which directly affect the product's portability, battery life, and user experience.
Common battery types and characteristics
1. Rechargeable Batteries (Secondary Batteries)
(1) Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Batteries
Key Features:
✅ High energy density, long battery life (such as electric toothbrushes can be used for 2-3 months or even 1 year)
✅ Can be recharged more than 500 times, low cost for long-term use
✅ Small size, light weight, suitable for portable devices
✅ No memory effect, charge and use at any time
✅ Low self-discharge, long-term storage and slow power decline
❌ Overcharge/overdischarge may affect life
Due to the lightweight requirements of electric toothbrushes, beauty devices, etc., in order to compress space, these products generally do not have protective boards. They only need to weld lead-out plates on the positive and negative poles of the battery and then insert them into the product's circuit board.
In the selection of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries, most models are small-sized, such as
ICR10440-350,
ICR14500-600, and
ICR18500-1400. Due to the recent decline in lithium battery raw material prices, manufacturers have promoted
"one charge per year" as a key selling point, leading to the emergence of many personal care products using
ICR18650 batteries.
Additionally, for products with higher safety requirements—such as
children's electric toothbrushes—
lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries are often chosen, such as
LFP10440-200, LFP14430-400 and LFP14500-600.
In this market segment, JYH specializes in compact lithium-ion battery cells, with core product offerings including
10370, 10440, 14430, 14500, 14650, 16300, 16340, 18350, and 18500 series models.

(2) Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) Batteries
Key Features:
✅
More eco-friendly than Ni-Cd (no toxic cadmium).
✅
~500 recharge cycles, decent capacity.
❌
Faster self-discharge (~30% monthly when unused, LSD Ni-MH are ).
AA and AAA are common Ni-MH sizes that used in personal care product. Ni-MH is a good technology to replace Ni-Cd, yet the energy density is still lower than Li-ion.
2. Primary Batteries
(1) Alkaline Batteries (AA/AAA)
Key Features:
✅
Low cost, widely available (supermarkets, convenience stores).
✅
Plug-and-play, good for travel/backup.
❌
Limited energy, high-drain devices need frequent replacement.
❌
Not eco-friendly (hazardous waste if not recycled).
3. Battery Maintenance Tips
✅
For Rechargeables:
-
Avoid deep discharges (it’s better to recharge the battery when there’s low battery reminder).
-
Store at ~50% SOC if unused for months, and ambient temperature should lower than 30 deg.C
-
Use OEM chargers to prevent overcharging.
❌
For Disposables:
-
Never mix old/new batteries (risk of leakage).
-
Remove batteries if unused for long periods.
4. Future Trends for Personal Care Batteries
-
Fast Charging: Support fully charged in 1 hour or less time.
-
Long Cycles: The rechargeable cells that JYH produced support 600 cycle life, and provide a two-year warranty
